Master Post-Expressionist Painter

Gustel K. Foust is a Master Impressionist/Expressionist Painter with her own unique style of impressionism/expressionism.  Gustel K. Foust’s artwork is well known for its masterful composition and incredible color combinations.  

Mrs. Foust has mastery of  different styles of painting with a vast range of styles from surrealistic, impressionistic, expressionistic, to realistic. Mrs. Foust has the ability to paint with the use of different mediums such as: Oil, Watercolor, Acrylics, Pastel, Batik, Sketches and many different types of painting such as:  Portraits, Landscapes, Still-Life, Fantasy and Murals. 

Most of Gustel K. Foust’s artwork is in “Plein Air”. Gustel K. Foust’s themes are very interesting and are dedicated to an intense understanding of nature and humanity, frequently her paintings depict nature (Trees, flowers and animals) with human beings interacting in motion. 

Gustel K. Foust was a child prodigy born in Nemonin, East Prussia in 1915. She studied art at three different prestigious art academies in Germany such as:  The Art Academy of Konigsberg, the Art Academy of Dresden and the Berlin Braeuhauschule.  Gustel K. Foust met and became friends with Emil Nolde (German Artist) and studied under Alfred Partikel (East Prussian Artist) and was one of his most prominent students.

Gustel K. Foust was forced leave her native East Prussia along with 600,000 other of her fellow East Prussians.  

In 1950, Mrs. Foust married a Mr. Viva E. Foust a member of the U.S. Navy Stationed in Germany.  In 1952 Ms. Foust emigrated to the United States and became a U.S. Citizen and settled in New England, where her artwork was much acclaimed by New York Art Critics and much in demand.  Ms. Foust has won numerous art prizes in art shows.  In 1958, Ms. Foust moved to Mexico and rapidly established herself as an artist there.  

Gustel K. Foust has taught art in Mexico and numerous painters have studied under her.  For example, Alejandro Colunga (Mexican Artist), one of Mexico’s most prominent contemporary painters, would come by her art studio on a regular basis for art instruction and painting tips. Mrs. Foust moved to California where she has had numerous exhibitions and has won numerous awards and prizes. She became well known for her plein air California landscapes and flower paintings.

Gustel K. Foust is a prolific artist and has painted hundreds of pieces of artwork. Gustel K. Foust’s artwork is well known in Mexico, the United States and Canada and much sought after.  Her artwork is in museums, galleries and many private collections in Mexico, United States, Canada and Europe. Gustel Foust is one of the most prominent impressionist/expressionist painters in the Washington, DC area. Her work has been and is on tour to museums and galleries in Mexico along with some of Mexico’s most prominent artists such as Rufino Tamayo (Mexican Artist) as well as many other prominent contemporary Mexican Artists.

Gustel K. Foust currently lives in West Virginia, near Harper’s Ferry. Gustel K. Foust had five children, four of them paint.
